Gov. Anoatubby presents Thorpe Award to top defensive back

Gov. Bill Anoatubby presented the Jim Thorpe Award at the Home Depot College Football Awards Show on Dec. 8. The presentation marked the third consecutive year Gov. Anoatubby participated in the event.

 

The 21st annual awards show was at the Walt Disney World Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. The event aired on ESPN.

 

The Jim Thorpe Award is presented annually to college football's outstanding defensive back.

 

Gov. Anoatubby presented the 2011 Jim Thorpe Award to LSU junior cornerback Morris Claiborne.

 

The award is named after Jim Thorpe (1887-1953), Native American Olympic champion and professional football player who is widely regarded as the greatest athlete of his time.

 

The other Thorpe Award finalists for 2011 were North Carolina State sophomore David Amerson, and Alabama senior Mark Barron.
